TCHS Awarded Virginia Humane Society of the Year 2023
The Twin County Humane Society was the recent recipient of the 2023 Humane Organization of the Year award from the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies. This award is presented to animal welfare organizations that have achieved a save rate of 90% or higher and have “made an extraordinary difference for the community by saving, preserving or improving pets and their owners.” The organization demonstrates “a shining example of progressive practices and creative programs that result in a positive community image and is seen as a recognized leader in the field.”
Members and supporters of TCHS attended the VFHS’s recent annual conference, which was held at the Shenandoah Valley Conference Center in Harrisonburg, VA at the end of March, 2023, to accept the award in person.
Also honored during the ceremony was Dr. Heather Jenkins, owner of Healing Springs Animal Hospital. Dr. Jenkins was presented with the Veterinary Partnership Award for her contributions to animal welfare in the region. TCHS works with Dr. Jenkins and other veterinary clinics in the Twin Counties to provide spay and neuter surgeries for owned animals, feral cat Trap-Neuter-Return programs for stray and community cats, and medical care for animals in their foster program.
